Lydia Barovero

Academic Dean

Dr. Lydia Barovero, a Latin American Literature scholar, teacher and academic administrator, is Brearley's Academic Dean.

Prior to joining Brearley, she served as the Upper School Academic Dean at Kent Place School, an all-girls school in Summit, New Jersey, where she worked for the last 14 years. In her capacity as Academic Dean, she has worked in collaboration with the faculty and students to implement Kent Place’s framework for inclusive pedagogy, to clarify the curricular objectives around their academic “bookends” (summer assignments and evidence of learning projects), and to craft supportive and transparent academic policies. In addition to her duties as Academic Dean, Dr. Barovero teaches Spanish and Women’s Studies, a course that she brought into the Kent Place curriculum to great success.

Dr. Barovero graduated with honors in Spanish from Dickinson College before going on to Penn State where she received her MA and PhD in Latin American Literature.
