Upper School Music Course Descriptions
APPLIED MUSIC OPTIONS (half credit; throughout the year): The department is open to requests for unusual groupings, but all students who sign up for group instrumental instruction, chamber music, or the vocal technique class are expected to participate in either the Upper School Orchestra or Chorus. Students are also expected to perform in two chamber music recitals during the year.
INTRODUCTION TO VOCAL TECHNIQUE AND LITERATURE: This course offers instruction in the fundamentals of vocal technique and an introduction to solo song literature, ending with a performance. Participation in the Upper School Chorus is required (also open to Classes X–XII).
CHAMBER MUSIC/ORCHESTRA: A small group of instrumentalists studies and performs a variety of pieces from the standard classical repertoire or from jazz idioms. Students must obtain departmental approval to enroll. Participation in the Upper School Orchestra is required (also open to Classes X–XII).
