Class X Math Course Descriptions
ALGEBRA II: This course encompasses a thorough study of algebraic techniques and graphs of functions. Specific topics include polynomial and rational functions; linear, absolute value, quadratic, trigonometric, exponential, and logarithmic functions; and the complex number system. Emphasis is placed on domain and range, transformations, compositions, symmetry, inverses of functions, and applications. Desmos.com and the TI-84 graphing calculator are used as tools for extension, exploration, and solution. Assessments are conducted both with and without calculators.
ALGEBRA II EXTENDED: This course covers the topics described in Algebra II (above) in greater depth, including the study of mathematical relations, functions, and transformations; specific topics include polynomial and rational functions, trigonometric functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, and the complex number system. The TI-84 graphing calculator is used as a tool for extension, exploration, and solution. Throughout the course, problems are designed to combine ideas and extend students’ problem-solving abilities.
ALGEBRA II AND PRECALCULUS: This accelerated course includes topics in Algebra II and precalculus; specific topics include polynomial functions, rational functions, trigonometric functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, sequences and series, vectors, parametric equations, polar coordinates, and graphs. An introduction to the study of differential calculus includes the topics of limits, continuity, and derivatives. Topics are studied in depth, with an emphasis on problem-solving and overarching themes and patterns. This course prepares students for Advanced Calculus in Class XI and may be taken with the permission of the math department through an application process.
