Class XI Classical Languages Courses

LATIN IV: Students read selections from Ovid’s Metamorphoses, Amores, Ars Amatoria, and Heroides and the poems of Catullus. They also read articles on themes such as metamorphosis, gender roles, love, humor, and wit in the cultural context of the Roman world. As students strive for fluency, the curriculum features textual analysis, meter, figurative language, lyric, and epic genres

GREEK I (half credit; throughout the year): This course offers instruction in the fundamentals of Attic Greek. Along with an introduction to the Greek alphabet, the principles of word formation, and rules of syntax, students read adaptations of Aesop’s fables, Homer’s The Odyssey, and the life of Alexander the Great.
