Class XI Math Course Descriptions

PRECALCULUS AND AN INTRODUCTION TO DIFFERENTIAL CALCULUS: This course continues the study of functions and trigonometry begun in Class X. Additional topics may include polar coordinates and graphs, vectors, conic sections, parametric equations, combinatorics, probability and statistics, and sequences and series. The course concludes with a beginning study of differential calculus and prepares students for Calculus. Calculus topics include limits and derivatives.

PRECALCULUS AND DIFFERENTIAL CALCULUS: This course covers the topics described in Precalculus and an Introduction to Differential Calculus in greater depth, as well as conic sections, parametric equations, polar coordinates and graphs, probability and statistics, and sequences and series. Calculus topics include limits, derivatives, and applications of derivatives. This course prepares students for Advanced Calculus.

CALCULUS B: This course, which covers differential and integral calculus and infinite series, prepares students for the College Board Advanced Placement (AP) BC Calculus exam. After the AP exam, the course covers additional topics, which may include combinatorics, probability, and/or statistics.

STATISTICS AND STATISTICAL MODELING: Introduction to the practice of statistics. Topics include organization of data with graphs and summary statistics; an examination of how data is produced through samples, experiments, and simulations; probability and random variables; and drawing inferences from data through confidence intervals and hypothesis tests. Computers and calculators are used extensively.
